Shakya Walters, Graduate Student Therapist in Kansas City, MO

Intentional & Grounded | Solution-Oriented & Compassionate | Faith-Aware

Hi, I’m Shakya (she/her), a Graduate Student Therapist at Liz Davis Therapy Group. I’m currently completing my Master’s in Counseling at Grand Canyon University and am supervised by Liz Davis, LMFT, LCMFT. I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families both in-person and online.

As a therapist, I show up with curiosity, warmth, and the deep belief that you don’t need to have it all figured out to start healing. You just need a space that feels safe enough to explore what’s really going on—and someone to walk with you while you do it. That’s what I’m here for.

Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here!

I see clients in person and online!

Who I work with and what we work on

I love working with people who have felt unheard, misunderstood, or invisible—especially folks navigating life as racial, gender, or sexual minorities. I’m drawn to clients who are trying to figure out what healing can look like outside of the systems and stories they were handed.

We might talk about:

  • The stress of being “the strong one” all the time

  • Figuring out your identity and finding your voice

  • Burnout, grief, people-pleasing, or emotional exhaustion

  • Reconnecting with your body, your values, or your sense of self

  • Healing postpartum or parenting stress

  • Letting go of perfectionism, fear, or survival-mode living

I take a special interest in working with women of color, new or overwhelmed mothers, and people navigating spiritual identity or religious trauma. I’m faith-aware and can hold space for conversations around religion and spirituality—but only if and when you want to bring them in.

What you can expect in session with me

My style is casual, human, and deeply intuitive. I don’t believe therapy should feel like going to the dentist—cold, clinical, or full of checkboxes. I believe it should feel like sitting down with someone who sees you, really hears you, and wants to help you get where you’re trying to go.

I draw from a solution-focused perspective, meaning we’ll talk about what’s going on—but we’ll also look ahead at what’s possible. Sessions with me might feel reflective and grounding, but they’ll also be full of movement, insight, and space for you to just be yourself.

The person behind the therapist

When I’m not in session, you’ll probably find me cooking something from scratch, making my way through Whole Foods like it’s Disneyland, traveling, or watching a rom-com I’ve already seen twice. I love spending quality time with friends and family, trying new things, sleeping in, and talking about emotions like it’s a full-time job.

If you’ve ever felt like therapy was “too formal,” “too cold,” or “not made for you” I get it. And I want to offer something different.

Session Fee & Sliding Scale

My standard fee is $75 per session for individuals, couples, and families.

I’m committed to making therapy accessible—and I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need.

If the full fee feels out of reach, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the office to inquire about sliding scale eligibility. You deserve support, and we’ll do our best to help make that possible.
