Meet Celest Chavez Wood (she/her), Graduate Student Therapist

Somatic-informed therapy for individuals navigating trauma, grief, identity, and life's unspoken complexities.

Meet Celest Chavez Wood

Starting therapy is a vulnerable step, but finding the right space to land shouldn't feel overwhelming. My primary approach as a therapist is built on genuine presence, empathy, and active listening. I specialize in meeting you exactly where you are, creating a calm and grounded environment where you can speak the things that feel scary to say out loud. In a world that often demands quick fixes, I believe in the power of sitting comfortably with life's uncomfortable moments.

Therapy with me isn't about rushing to "fix" you. It's about honoring your lived experience, holding space when there are no simple answers, and walking alongside you as you process and integrate life's heaviest challenges.

I view therapy as an essential space for human connection and healing. So many of us carry the pressure of trying to be everything for everyone, or we find ourselves isolated from the built-in community supports that previous generations relied upon. Therapy provides a dedicated space to replace that missing social capital, giving you a confidential, non-judgmental environment to unpack deep-seated patterns, explore your upbringing, and learn how your central nervous system responds to stress. Together, we translate complex emotional experiences into real, everyday awareness so you can feel more connected to yourself and others.

I am particularly drawn to working with teens, young adults, and adults navigating identity, grief, trauma, and major life transitions. Whether you are exploring multicultural or biracial dynamics, untangling generational expectations, processing a sudden loss, or simply looking for someone to help you make sense of your internal world, I am here to hold space for your story. Everyone's path to wellness looks different, and I am committed to helping you discover yours with curiosity, warmth, and deep respect.

Celest’s Therapy Journey

My journey to becoming a therapist is deeply rooted in my own lived experiences and a profound respect for the human capacity to heal. Originally from Utah, I grew up in a conservative environment that shaped my early life. Four years ago, I made the conscious decision to move to Kansas City to seek out greater cultural diversity, expand my horizons, and immerse myself in a broader community, a transition that deeply enriched my perspective as both a person and a clinician. Today, I ground my life and practice in a blend of conscious awareness, deep spirituality, nature, positive psychology, and radical acceptance.

My commitment to specializing in trauma and grief is deeply personal. When I was fifteen, I survived a traumatic four-wheeler accident that claimed the life of a close friend. Navigating that profound grief and life-altering trauma at such a pivotal age completely reshaped my worldview. It taught me firsthand what it means to carry heavy loss, but it also ignited my calling to be the person who sits with others in their darkest, most uncomfortable moments when there are no easy answers.

As a biracial, Mexican-American woman, I also bring a nuanced understanding of cultural identity to my clinical work. I understand the complex dynamics of walking between two worlds, navigating generational expectations, or feeling misplaced within different cultural groups. Whether I am working with multicultural individuals, LGBTQ+ folks, teens, or men navigating modern emotional isolation, I channel a steady, non-judgmental warmth inspired by my belief that every behavior makes sense when you understand its context.

Currently completing my Master's degree in Clinical Counseling at Avila University following a Bachelor's in Psychology, I strive to offer every client the steady, non-judgmental anchor they need to process, integrate, and move forward.

Celest Outside the Therapy Room

When she isn’t in the therapist's chair, Celest embraces an active, creative, and community-centered lifestyle. A self-described sports enthusiast, she grew up playing soccer, softball, and basketball and remains an avid golfer today—a hobby she picked up in high school and loves for its lifelong appeal and peaceful nature. Whether watching a game, hitting the golf course, or talking sports, it is one of her favorite ways to connect with others.

At home, Celest finds balance and grounding in her garden. You can often find her outdoors tending to her raised plant beds, where she grows everything from carrots and radishes to lettuce, potatoes, and green beans. Her household is rounded out by her tech-nerd, writer husband, and their two beloved rescue dogs, Zelda and Luna—a high-energy pit-heeler mix and a wonderfully chill lab mix companion.

Celest thrives on experiencing local culture, art, reading, and community events. As an AMC A-Lister, she is a frequent moviegoer, but she also loves attending theater plays, comedy shows, host-your-own-appetizer craft nights with friends, and local Kansas City neighborhood traditions like First Fridays. Always ready for a new adventure, her ultimate post-graduation goal is to take a dream trip to Switzerland to relax amidst quiet, breathtaking mountain scenery.
