Meet Jackson Welsh (he/him), Graduate Student Therapist
Warm & Adaptable | LGBTQ+ Affirming | Growth-Oriented
Therapy for a better you from a place of authenticity and belonging.
Therapy can be a place to slow down, get curious about who you are, and make sense of where you want to go next. Jackson brings a warm, adaptable, and genuinely curious presence to the therapy room, meeting each client where they are rather than expecting them to fit into a particular way of doing therapy. He believes that you know yourself best, and his role is to work alongside you to understand what you need, what matters to you, and what kind of growth feels meaningful.
Jackson is especially passionate about working with LGBTQ+ clients as they explore identity, authenticity, belonging, and community. He understands that finding your people isn't always as simple as finding someone who shares a label or experience. Sometimes it means figuring out which relationships energize you, which ones leave you feeling disconnected, and what it means to build a community that genuinely reflects who you are.
Whether you're navigating questions about identity, relationships, community, life transitions, or simply trying to better understand yourself, Jackson offers a non-judgmental space where you can bring the complicated parts, too. His approach is collaborative and flexible, drawing from different therapeutic perspectives based on what feels most useful to you.
Therapy with Jackson Welsh.
Safety, Without Judgement.
Jackson grew up in Abilene, Kansas, where he developed an early appreciation for the importance of community. As the oldest of four brothers, he learned from an early age how to navigate different personalities, perspectives, and relationships. He was also involved in just about everything: band, choir, theater, cross-country, student council, and whatever other opportunities came his way. Those experiences helped shape the people-oriented person he is today and taught him how much he values connection with others.
Theater was especially meaningful to Jackson. It gave him a creative outlet and a place where he could feel confident in his abilities, but it also introduced him to a community where he felt a sense of belonging. Growing up in a small, conservative Kansas town, that experience became an important part of his understanding of what it means to find people who make space for you to be yourself.
Today, Jackson continues to seek out community in intentional ways. Whether he's spending time with friends, exploring Kansas City, participating in the Gay Men's Chorus, or trying something new, he enjoys the energy that comes from being around other people. He's also learned the importance of balancing connection with time for himself, finding his own interests through reading, crocheting, running, working out, and playing piano.
For Jackson, relationships aren't just something that happen around the edges of life—they're a meaningful part of how we grow. His own experiences navigating different communities, identities, and perspectives have given him a deep appreciation for the complexity of being human. He brings that same curiosity into his work with clients, genuinely interested in understanding each person's unique story and the experiences that have shaped who they are.

Why I Became a Therapist
I've always been drawn to work that allows me to make a tangible difference in other people's lives. I initially explored education and music education before finding my way toward school counseling and, eventually, clinical mental health. Along the way, I saw firsthand how much of an impact a supportive counselor can have, especially through my own experiences with school counselors who supported me as I navigated my identity and relationships with my family.
What ultimately drew me to therapy is the opportunity to keep growing alongside the people I work with. I appreciate that there is no point in a therapist's career where everything is figured out. People change, circumstances change, and the world continues to change, which means there is always something new to learn and new ways to understand the people sitting across from me.
I'm also naturally curious about people's stories. I enjoy learning about the nuances that make each person unique—their experiences, relationships, patterns, and the ways all of those pieces interact. For me, getting to do that work as a therapist feels both meaningful and surprisingly natural. Therapy gives me the opportunity to turn something I've always enjoyed, understanding people, into work that can help someone create meaningful change in their life.

Raised in Abilene, Kansas as the oldest of four brothers, he carries small-town values of responsibility, thriftiness, and practical self-reliance into his daily life. His artistic background in theater and music provided an early creative outlet, shaping his passion for storytelling and authentic self-expression. Today, he stays connected to that love for music as an active member of the Kansas City Gay Men’s Chorus.
Whether he is hosting a game night with roommates, trying local restaurants, or relaxing with a new project, Jackson thrives on staying connected with those around him.
