Meet Josh Weisoly (he/him), Graduate Student Therapist
Empathetic | Grounded | Humble
Met Josh Weisoly: A grounded perspective ready to walk with you on your mental health journey.
Stepping into therapy requires courage, but finding a supportive space should feel natural and welcoming. My primary approach as a therapist is grounded in unconditional empathy, active listening, and a deep, humble curiosity about your unique story. I operate from a Rogerian, person-centered framework, which means I view you as the ultimate expert on your own life. My role isn't to judge, lecture, or tell you who to be; rather, I aim to serve as a clear, non-judgmental mirror—helping you see your thoughts, feelings, and experiences from a fresh, grounded perspective so you can grow on your own terms.
At the core of my work is a passion for genuine human connection. In a fast-paced world filled with digital noise and constant overstimulation, we rarely get the luxury to slow down and simply be heard. I focus on creating a safe environment where your nervous system can reset, allowing us to explore how connection—or the lack of it—shapes your daily life. Whether we are building practical tools to reframe negative thoughts or diving into existential questions about purpose and meaning, our sessions are designed to leave you feeling truly validated, understood, and cared for.
I am dedicated to serving individuals from all walks of life across the Kansas City community without rigid expectations or pre-formed judgments. Whether you are carrying the weight of past trauma, navigating major life transitions, dealing with feelings of isolation, or simply looking to understand yourself on a deeper level, I am here to walk alongside you. Everyone deserves a compassionate space to heal, and I am committed to helping you discover your own capacity for love, resilience, and personal growth.
Josh’s Path to Therapy
Providing accessible, trauma-informed care.
My path to becoming a clinician is driven by a deep sense of social responsibility and a desire to turn privilege into meaningful service. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, I later moved to Massachusetts for college to experience the Northeast—a region I grew up visiting and loving due to my family's roots in New York and New Jersey. Raised in an environment where my father dedicated his life to saving newborns as a neonatologist and my mother gave up nursing to care for our family, I learned early on the value of hard work, equality, and helping others. Seeing that example instilled in me a quiet commitment to use my background to make a genuine, positive difference in the lives of those around me.
Growing up as a twin and navigating my Jewish identity in a predominantly Christian state gave me a nuanced, firsthand understanding of identity struggles, belonging, and the importance of finding community. Today, my personal values are centered on unconditional love, empathy, and humility. Clinically, I draw heavily on existential therapy and Viktor Frankl’s teachings on logotherapy—the idea that even in the face of immense suffering, human beings possess the power to make meaning and find purpose. I integrate these philosophical perspectives with practical Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic grounding, and mindfulness techniques, tailoring my approach to meet each client's unique needs.
While I am open to working with anyone who walks through my door, I have a dedicated focus on trauma-informed care, particularly supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. I believe deeply in helping clients break through shame, rebuild trust, and internalize the vital truth that what happened to them is not their fault. Currently pursuing my degree in Counseling Psychology, my long-term goal is to earn a Ph.D. to build affordable community practices and expand accessible mental health resources within public education systems.

Josh Outside the Therapy Room
When he isn’t in the therapist's chair, Josh values opportunities to slow down, reset, and engage with his personal passions. An avid fan of media that encourages a relaxed pace, his favorite hobby is watching anime. He is particularly drawn to "Slice-of-Life" and slow-burn series like K-On! and Frieren, appreciating their ability to help reset the central nervous system and offer a peaceful escape from daily stress.
Growing up in a household with strong Northeastern roots, Josh inherited a lifelong love for the New York Mets and baseball history. He grew up playing third base and still enjoys watching and discussing the sport alongside his twin brother, with whom he currently lives. Josh is also a passionate reader who frequently dives into existential psychology and philosophy books, enjoying the intellectual challenge of taking classic wisdom and applying it to modern life.
Above all, Josh strives to live out the same principles of presence, humility, and open-mindedness that he brings to his clinical work. Whether he is diving into a good book, enjoying a slow-paced show, or analyzing a baseball game, he prioritizes meaningful connection and taking the time to appreciate life's simpler moments.
