Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapists in Kansas City, MO

Finally, therapy that works with your brain, not against it.

Are you tired of "masking" just to get through a session? At The Liz Davis Therapy Group, we provide neurodivergent-affirming therapy in Kansas City for Autistic adults, ADHDers, Neuroqueer folks, and the AuDHD community. Whether you're looking for an ND therapist or a trained ally, you’ve found your space.

Tired of being "fixed"?

Traditional therapy often treats neurodivergence as a problem to be solved. If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, judged for your communication style, or exhausted by the pressure to act "normal" in the therapy room, you aren't alone. We believe your neurotype is a vital part of who you are, not a deficit to be cured.

What "Neuro-Affirming" actually means here.

Identity-First Care: We respect your language and your identity.

Unmasking Support: This is a "stimming-safe" and "no-eye-contact-required" zone.

Strengths-Based: We focus on navigating a world built for neurotypicals, not changing your internal wiring.

Direct Communication: No reading between the lines. We are clear, literal, and transparent.

We’ve designed this for you.

We know the "administrative overhead" of therapy can be a barrier.

  • Sensory Control: If in person, you can choose between soft lighting in the room, weighted blankets, various types of fidget tools, background sound/music, or none, bringing in your own items or crafts or stuffies, or using ours, or you can do virtual sessions from your own safe space.

  • Predictability: No surprise billing or sudden schedule changes. You'll know exactly what to expect.

  • Flexibility: Prefer to process through writing or art? We adapt to your communication style.

Support for the Autistic Experience.

Therapy should be a place where you don't have to translate your experience into "neurotypical." We help our clients navigate:

  • Recovering from Burnout: Moving beyond exhaustion to find a sustainable pace.

  • Navigating a NT World: Building relationships and careers that honor your communication style.

  • Sensory & Executive Support: Practical strategies for a world that is often too loud and too fast.

  • Unmasking with Confidence: Finding out who you are when you aren't trying to "fit in."

Neuro-Affirming Couples Therapy.

Connection without the "Performance."

Whether you are in a "Neuro-Mixed" relationship or you are both Neurodivergent, the traditional rules of dating and partnership often feel like a script you didn't write. At The Liz Davis Therapy Group, we help you build relationships based on Authenticity, not Compliance

  • Beyond Social Skills: We don't teach you how to "act normal" for your partner. We help you both build a shared language.

  • Parallel Connection: Discovering how to be together in ways that respect your sensory and communication needs.

  • Conflict Resolution: Moving from "Why can't you just..." to "How can we solve this together?"

Neuroqueer Therapy: Your Identity Isn't a Symptom.

If you are queer, trans, or non-binary and neurodivergent, you’ve likely spent your life being told that your identity is "too complex" or, worse, that your gender is just a byproduct of your autism or ADHD. At The Liz Davis Therapy Group, we know that’s not true.

We offer a Neuroqueer-affirming space where we don't try to untangle your neurotype from your identity. We recognize that for many of us, the way we experience gender and sexuality is deeply shaped by our neurodivergent brains.

How we support our LGBTQIA+ ND community:

  • Beyond "Gender Dysphoria": We move past the medicalized pathologizing of trans and non-binary identities. We focus on gender euphoria and the freedom to define yourself on your own terms.

  • Navigating the "Double Mask": The exhaustion of hiding your neurodivergent traits often mirrors the exhaustion of hiding your true Self. We help you peel back the layers of both.

  • Sensory-Aware Transition Support: We understand how sensory sensitivities can impact your relationship with clothes, hormones, or medical procedures, and we help you navigate those transitions with your nervous system in mind.

  • Authentic Relationships: From "Poly-vagal" informed polyamory to navigating the unique communication styles of neuro-queer partnerships, we support your right to love and connect outside of neurotypical, heteronormative boxes.

Navigating the Neurotypical Workplace.

You’re excellent at what you do, but the "social overhead" of your job is draining your battery faster than you can recharge. Whether it’s the dread of "open-office" floor plans, the exhaustion of navigating unwritten social hierarchies, or the "ADHD tax" on your executive functioning, we can help you build a sustainable career without sacrificing your well-being.

We help you navigate:

  • The Hidden Curriculum: Decoding office politics and "reading between the lines" of professional feedback.

  • Sensory Advocacy: Identifying the environmental triggers (lights, noise, back-to-back Zoom calls) that lead to 3:00 PM shutdowns.

  • Reasonable Accommodations (Without the Shame): Strategic support for requesting what you need to thrive—from flexible hours to written-only instructions.

  • Executive Functioning Systems: Building "brain-friendly" workflows that work with your hyper-focus rather than forcing a neurotypical 9-to-5 rhythm.

Therapists Who Actually Get It. Less Masking, More Healing.

All of you is welcome here!

“You’re not broken, and you don’t need to be fixed. As Dr. Temple Grandin said, ‘The world needs all types of minds.’ Your mind, exactly how it is, is a gift to be celebrated, and The Liz Davis Therapy Group Team is here to be a safe space to embrace all parts of you.”

Meet Our Team of AuDHD Therapists and Allies.

Larke Tyler (she/they), LMSW

I understand that for many neurodivergent adults, "success" has often come at the cost of profound exhaustion. As a therapist with lived experience as a person with AuDHD, I work with "gifted" overachievers, corporate leads, and the LGBTQIA+ community to move beyond the performance of normalcy. Whether you are navigating the hidden curriculum of the workplace or exploring the intersection of your gender and neurotype, I provide a space where your intellect and identity are both celebrated. No rigid scripts, no forced social norms—just a genuine partnership built for your brain. I see clients only online at this time.

Harry Green, MS, PLMFT, SMFT

Stop trying to fit the box. Start loving your "Busy Brain." You’ve spent a lifetime being told your natural neurological variations are deficits. I’m here to tell you they are simply you—and you are not maladaptive; the environment is. If you’re tired of the inherent loneliness of not fitting a world that wasn't built for you, let’s work together to find your liberation. Whether you’re navigating ADHD, Autism, or Dyslexia, I want to help you change the narrative from shame to awe. I see clients both in-person and virtually.

Harry Green (he/him), MS, PLMFT, SMFT

Ashley Brooks (she/her), PLPC

I approach therapy from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective, striving to create a space where you feel understood and accepted without the pressure to mask or perform. Whether you are navigating the exhaustion of burnout, exploring a late-diagnosis identity, or managing sensory overwhelm, our work together is collaborative, relational, and tailored to your specific needs. I value direct communication and curiosity, helping you unlearn self-criticism and build a life that works for your brain rather than against it. I see clients both in-person and virtually.

We know the "dreaded phone call" is real. Use our online portal to book a 15-minute vibe check. No pressure, just a chance to see if we’re the right fit for your brain. If texting feels better, send us a message at 913-346-4768, or email us at Office@lizdavistherapy.com.

Just Some Info!

  • It means we don't view Autism, ADHD, or Dyslexia as "disorders" to be cured. Instead, we see them as natural variations in the human brain. Our goal isn't to make you act neurotypical; it's to help you build a life that works for your unique wiring.

  • We focus on therapeutic support and identity exploration. While we do not provide formal clinical evaluations or diagnostic reports, we are happy to work with you regardless of whether you have a formal piece of paper.

  • Many people spend years wondering if their experiences fit a certain profile. Therapy is a safe place to explore those questions, look at your history, and see if neurodivergent frameworks (like the "Double Empathy Problem" or sensory processing styles) help you make better sense of your world.

  • We provide tailored support for children and adolescents navigating school and development, as well as adults navigating careers, relationships, and late-diagnosis discovery.

  • No. We honor self-diagnosis. We understand that the formal diagnostic process is often expensive and inaccessible. If you feel you are neurodivergent, that is enough for us to begin our work together.

  • Absolutely not. We encourage you to move, fidget, look away, or do whatever helps your nervous system feel regulated during our sessions. You don't have to "mask" here.

  • Yes. We offer high-quality telehealth so you can engage in therapy from the safety and comfort of your own controlled environment.

  • Traditional training often focuses on "compliance"—teaching you how to mimic neurotypical behavior. Our approach focuses on self-advocacy. We help you understand your needs and communicate them to others, rather than forcing you to change who you are to make others comfortable.

  • We get it. The "ADHD tax" is real. We use automated text and email reminders, and we work with you to build a scheduling system that reduces dread rather than adding to it.

  • Yes. This is a core focus for us. We help you identify the "masking drain" in your life and work on sensory regulation and boundary-setting to help you recover and prevent future collapse.

  • The first session is a "vibe check." There’s no pressure to dive into deep trauma immediately. We’ll talk about your goals, your sensory preferences, and what makes you feel safe in a therapeutic space. You are in the driver's seat.
