Kat Willis, Graduate Student Therapist

Relationally Rooted | Curiously Present | Radically Affirming

Welcome, I'm so glad you're here!

Starting therapy can be a tender and courageous step—and I’m honored you’ve found your way here. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, curious, or simply ready for something to shift, I believe you deserve a space that feels safe, collaborative, and deeply human.

I’m Kat Willis (she/her), a Graduate Student Therapist at The Liz Davis Therapy Group in Kansas City. I approach therapy with warmth, curiosity, honesty, and a belief in your inherent capacity for growth and healing. I see therapy as a space where we can meet yourself with compassion and care—even the parts that feel complicated or heavy.

Whether you're coming in to process past experiences, explore identity, untangle relationship dynamics, or just catch your breath, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

I see clients in person and online!

Who I Work With and What We Work On

I welcome clients from all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences—and I truly believe you don’t need to have everything “figured out” to begin. Whether you’re navigating a major shift or simply feeling stuck, therapy with me is a space to reconnect with your inner wisdom, challenge what’s no longer serving you, and explore what healing might look like in your life.

Emotional Wellness and Mental Health

I support clients navigating:

  • Anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm

  • Burnout, over-functioning, and self-worth tied to productivity

  • Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and high self-expectations

Identity, Growth, and Exploration

Together, we can explore:

  • Gender, sexuality, and personal belief systems

  • Life transitions and emerging adult identity

  • Grief, loss, and the changing shape of relationships

Trauma and Regulation

I work with clients who are:

  • Healing from early or relational trauma

  • Exploring emotional awareness and regulation

  • Working to reconnect with their bodies, values, and voice

Overthinkers and Internalizers

I support people who spend a lot of time in their heads—second-guessing decisions, replaying conversations, holding themselves to high standards, and rarely asking for help. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, get curious about those patterns, and start offering yourself the same care you give to everyone else.

Body and Food Relationships

I also support those struggling with:

  • Disordered eating and body image

  • Food-related anxiety, shame, or control

  • Finding more freedom and compassion in how they nourish themselves

Relationships and Connection

Whether you’re partnered, single, or somewhere in between, I support:

  • Couples of all kinds—including romantic partners, friends, or roommates

  • Families navigating change, communication challenges, or disconnection

  • Clients working through trust, intimacy, and communication dynamics

Examples of the Therapy Goals I Support

Therapy looks different for everyone. Whether you're seeking clarity, relief, connection, or simply a place to breathe, I’m here to meet you where you are—with warmth, flexibility, and deep respect for your lived experience.

Some of the goals clients often bring into our work together include:

  • Understanding and managing anxiety or depression

  • Healing from trauma and building inner safety

  • Letting go of perfectionism and finding self-worth outside of achievement

  • Exploring gender, sexuality, or identity with curiosity and self-compassion

  • Strengthening communication and relationship dynamics

  • Building emotional awareness and regulation

  • Releasing food and body shame and reconnecting with nourishment

  • Navigating grief, loss, or major life transitions

  • Creating boundaries that support your values and energy

  • Developing a more honest and connected relationship with yourself

You don’t need to have your goals perfectly mapped out. Sometimes therapy begins with simply naming the truth of where you are—and that’s more than enough.

What you can expect in session

Therapy with me is deeply human. You can expect warmth, presence, and a space that’s both supportive and real. I’ll show up with curiosity, honesty, and care—ready to meet you wherever you are.

Sessions with me aren’t about quick fixes or polished answers. They’re about creating space for your full self—your questions, your contradictions, your resilience, and your pain. I bring a relational, trauma-informed lens to our work, which means I pay close attention to safety, pacing, and your unique experience of the world.

Sometimes therapy looks like processing hard emotions or naming things you’ve never said out loud. Other times, it looks like laughter, insight, silence, or simply practicing being present with what is. However it unfolds, we’ll move at a pace that honors your needs and your story.

My hope is that you leave each session feeling just a little more connected—to yourself, to your body, to your values, and to what matters most.

Session Fee & Sliding Scale

My standard fee is $75 per 50-minute session, whether you're coming in as an individual, couple, or family. As a Graduate Student Intern, I’m committed to making therapy accessible—and I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need.

If the full fee feels out of reach, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the office to inquire about sliding scale eligibility. You deserve support, and we’ll do our best to help make that possible.

Learn More About Kat

The Person. Hi! I’m Kat. I cannot wait to meet you. I am a big-time fan of therapy. I think of therapy as intentionally meeting ourselves in the most tender, honest, and vulnerable way. I deeply believe in our inherent ability to find healing and growth. I hope to walk with you as you discover and reconnect with your truest self. I lead with warmth, curiosity, radical acceptance, honesty, and a rooted belief that you already carry profound wisdom within you. Sometimes we all need a little help uncovering it. Outside of the therapy room, I’m a lover of food and cooking (I’ll happily talk about recipes or restaurants anytime), bone-dry cappuccinos, being in nature, 90’s pop music (ok fine, all pop music), and my cat, Beyoncé. I’m tenacious, playful, enthusiastic, and I believe that connection with others, as well as feeling connected to ourselves, is a vital part of our well-being.

The Clinician. I bring a relational, client-centered focus to my work. I’m endlessly curious about what makes us who we are—the stories we carry, the way we cope, the courage we stand in, and all the ways we navigate life and relationships. I believe healing happens in safe connection, and I hope to co-create that safety with you. My approach stems from a warm and open place, engaged, and attuned to not only your struggles but also the strength that you already contain.

The Approach. I practice from a systemic perspective, which is an approach where I consider relationships, personal and cultural identities, and the layered context that shapes your experience. I draw from approaches that help people understand their relationships in a new light, connect with their bodies, explore different parts of themselves, and find safety as they heal from difficult experiences. I bring curiosity and flexibility to our work together, along with lightness and humor, always working to tailor my approach to meet you in a place that honors your unique needs and personal values.

My Training: I am currently completing my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) at Friends University and I am a proud member of the Delta Kappa Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society. My education emphasizes systemic, ethical, and culturally responsive care. I find great meaning in committing to my growth as both a student therapist and a human on this earth.

My Therapeutic Delivery: I offer in-person and virtual sessions depending on your needs and what you prefer. I strive to create a space that feels safe, collaborative, and deeply human. My work is trauma-informed, affirming, and deeply rooted in a belief that you are worthy of being fully seen and supported exactly as you are.
